Surprise Gifts

It was all going on as normal, for the last few days in the Bhatt household. They are a simple happy going family of Husband, wife and their only son, Bunty. Their parents live in other town. Bhaskar’s mother live for six months at his elder brother’s place and the last six months at his place. His father left them at an early age and their mother helped them to stand up on their feet. Both the brothers are very much closely attached to their mother. They also told their wives that they should not be at all harsh to their mother. Bhaskar’s wife, Bhoomika takes a little extra care for her mother in law, since she has lost her mother at an early age. Her mother in law, Kalyani also loves a little more her younger daughter in law. They both like to stay much closer to each other, giving much relief to Bhaskar. Both the brothers are very well settled in their life. His brother is a high flying executive in a Pharmaceutical MNC and him a Chartered Accountant in an executive post with a PSU Bank. His future plans are to retire voluntarily and start his own Chartered firm. Both their wife’s are rather typical housewives spending most of their time rather lazily.
But who knew that trouble was getting incubated for this younger Bhatt’s. Suddenly one morning the doorbell rang, Bhoomika was preparing tea and was about to call her husband. Their son was preparing to join his parents at the dining table. Bhoomika opened the door and was astonished to see the courier boy, holding a beautiful bookie of flowers. ‘Good Morning, Madam’’ Here’s a gift for you, please sign and receive it’. With hardly any word, she receives it, ‘Thank you, Madam, Have a good day’ the courier boy departs. Bhaskar came down, hearing the unexpected doorbell. Both of them were really bowled out by this stranger, who dispatched the gift. They could hardly remember this strange and almost anonymous person who sent this beautiful gift. Bhaskar, naturally grew a suspicion of his rather beautiful wife. He tried his best to unearth this mystery, putting pressure upon Bhoomika. He did the unexpected thing putting Bhoomika under lock and key. But poor Bhoomika, she is totally innocent, she really loves her husband and her son. Bhoomika cannot imagine her life without them but Bhaskar’s suspicion grew thick and thin when the second consignment arrived. This was an imitation jewelry set, covered with roses. Bhaskar even tried to sexually assault her but this woman is totally helpless, where she will go? She will be unable to live without them.
This House which was once an epitome of happiness turned into a house of endless sorrow and nightmares. The gifts continued to arrive at least once a month and its nature continued to change. Gradually it became costly and they became more suspicious of it. They even reported the matter to the local police station and appointed a private detective to look into the matter. But still it was not an easy task to find this mysterious person and the search was going on. Gradually Bhaskar felt that his dear wife is really helpless and she is totally innocent in this whole matter. They came closer and continued to love each other like before. But both of them could not make out, who is this mysterious person? Bhaskar and Bhoomika’s initial separation made their love to each other stronger. In the meantime, Bhoomika’s mother in law arrived and she gave some clew to find this mysterious person. Mrs. Kalyani Bhatt said about Bhoomika’s cousin brother about five year’s younger than her. Bivas, ‘yes’ certainly it’s he, none other, jumped Bhoomika. From childhood he is after me, inspite of living in Canada for so many years he has not changed a little. Then quite after a few days, a phone call came when almost everyone is at home. It was Bivas from Toronto, and Bhoomika first picked up the receiver and started almost shouting,’It was for you that your brother-in –law was about to divorce me. And a roll of laughter rolled down the house, he said that he will reach Durgapur next week for almost a month’s vacation. Suddenly everyone became very much happy and busy on the occasion of Bivas’s coming home. Then the D day came and Bivas Gupta arrived at the Bhatt household, Bhoomika was unexpectedly happy and almost embraced her dear brother with tearful eyes. Settling down in a sofa, turning towards Bhoomika, Bivas said, ‘Hi, sis how were the surprise gifts”, but the storm has almost settled down.
Bivas said, ‘Last month at a mall, I met your best friend Sheila, who is now settled in Canada. She gave me your address and I called up my friend, Atul in Durgapur, who did the job according to my given instructions'. Bhoomika, naughtily threw her hands on Bivas’s back saying, ‘in intelligence you always beat me’. Bivas consoled his sister, hey ‘Bhoomi didi you are my only near one on this earth, and all other left long ago’. Both the brother and sister duo crying, embraced each other. 'You know, Bhaskar da met Atul at the office and they both knew about the matter but my dear brother in law, almost deliberately did not speak any word about it, just to prove your love'. Bhoomika only laughed and again embraced her brother.
